Charolais

The Charolais Bull plays a very important role in Dana Hellen Ranch’s commercial program.  We have purchased bulls from various breeders, but experience shows that the bulls raised in the same climate work best.  For some time, we have used bulls from Thomas Charolais in Raymondville.  The calves produced from our mature F-1 commercial cows make up the “income crop”.  The Charolais cross calf weans heavy and gains well on feed.  In the S. Texas area, feeders seem to prefer the “yellow” calves. 

Our first-calf heifers are always bred to Red Brangus bulls for a low birth weight
