In 1895, C.W. Hellen leased his first ranch land in Jim Hogg County. At the time, the Longhorn cattle raised in the area were trail-driven to Kansas City for market. Indian and Bandito raids, land disputes, drought, rattlesnakes and loneliness threatened the settlers. Although much has changed, three generations have continued to ranch the same land. At Dana Hellen Ranch, we continue to respect and honor the foundation and traditions that have been passed down for more than a century.
